There has been a lot of stigmatization of “mental illness” in the Occupy movement, not only in Richmond but at other Occupy locations around the country. As Mind(ful) Liberation fights daily to destigmatize mental health concerns, we will be attending the Differently-Abled Awareness Caucus for Occupy Richmond this Sunday.
The Differently-Abled Awareness Caucus for Occupy RVA is a safe space where folks of any age with various disabilities, along with their allies, can discuss the issues facing differently-abled people in the Occupy movements. We will then make those issues known to the larger group in order to raise awareness about ableism. If you haven’t yet joined Occupy RVA because of challenges you may face or if you have left or are considering leaving, we’d love to hear from you.
The goal is to possibly create a workgroup that can further facilitate these discussions with the rest of the group and to make sure that particular needs can be met.
Come on out and let your voice be heard!
When: Sunday, Nov. 20th 2:00-4:00 PM
You can RSVP on Facebook here.
We will make our concerns heard loud and clear. Spread the word and feel free to come join the conversation!
